Professional nurse Nonhlanhla F. Skosana started her career in 1980 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, joined Charlotte Maxeke JHB Academic Hospital in 1986. She was the first black night matron, in 1990 she opened the Vascular unit and then joined the Rheumatology team in 1993. Nonhlanhla is a Rheumatology specialist nurse; she did her Rheumatology training at Groote Schuur Hospital in 1996.
Nonhlanhla was the operational manager of rheumatology OPD till 2018 when she retired. She was and is still involved in patient and community education and awareness. She is involved in research and Biologics in rheumatology. She assists the RA foundation with RA workshops and health talks. Her focus is also on HIV/AID’s and RA and has done a Comprehensive course in HIV/AID’s ARV treatment at Steve Biko Academic Hospital.
Her position is to see RA patients treated in the early stages of a disease, preserve what is functional and encourage independence.
